NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fourteenth-ranked Bowdoin handed No. 13 Navy its third loss of the year Friday night, beating the Midshipmen, 6-3, at the Yale Round Robin. The Mids won three of the top-four positions on the ladder, but Bowdoin claimed the marathon matches to earn the win.

Sophomore Tucker George (West Hartford, Conn.) led the way for the Mids with a 3-1 win at the No. 1 spot against junior Matthew Dresher, 5-9, 9-0, 9-5, 9-3. Second-year standout Jeff Sawin (Haverford, Pa.) earned a 3-0 sweep over his Bowdoin foe, senior Bruce Slatzman, at the No. 2 position, while Navy freshman Alastair Smith (Hillsborough, N.J.) turned in a 9-4, 9-4, 3-9, 9-3 triumph at No. 4 against Zach Linhart.

Bowdoin claimed two five-game matches at the No. 8 and 9 spots. Bowdoin senior Chris Metcalf came back from a 2-1 deficit to win the fourth (9-6) and fifth games (9-5) to earn a win over the Mids' Brian Hamilton (Lake Forest, Ill.). At the No. 9 spot, Michael John Beautyman Jr. (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) owned a 2-0 lead when Bowdoin's Raymond Carta won three straight to capture the win.

The Mids meet Bates and MIT Saturday as they continue action at the Yale Round Robin.
