ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy senior women's cross country runner Justine Whipple (Duxbury, Mass.) won the Star Meet for the second-consecutive year to lead the Midshipmen to a 21-38 N-Star win over Army at the USNA Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.
The Midshipmen wrap up their regular season with a 5-0 record in dual-meet action, while the Black Knights dropped to 0-2.
Navy registered five of the seven-fastest times to bring the N-Star back to Annapolis for the first time since 2000. The Midshipmen improved their all-time advantage over the Black Knights to 12-9, including an 8-3 mark on the USNA Cross Country Course.
"I'm so excited and am really happy for our team today," stated Navy head coach Karen Boyle. "It's really unprecedented to have eight seniors, all healthy and finishing in the top-12. This group has been our pride and joy for four years. To see them go out of this meet on top with the N-Star, it's really a great feeling."
Whipple posted the third-fastest time in course history, second-best time by a Navy runner, with her 22:15.13 showing. One year after claiming first at the 2005 Star Meet by 37.34 seconds, the Navy senior finished 40.34 seconds ahead of Army's top runner, Meghan Curran. Whipple has posted Navy's fastest time in each of her last-10 races, including three overall first-place performances.
Fellow senior Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo.) followed Whipple with a 22:54.33 clocking to edge out Curran for second-place. Castro's time ranks as the ninth-fastest in course history and the third-best by a Navy runner. The product of Centennial, Colo., has finished among Navy's top-two runners in every meet this season.
Senior Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla.) crossed the finish line in 23:05.18, sixth-best by a Midshipmen runner in course history, for Navy's third-place time and fifth overall. Junior Kyleigh Millhouse (Boiling Springs, Pa.) followed in sixth with a 23:15.36 showing and sophomore Maureen Dooley (Durham, Conn.) rounded out the Navy scoring with her seventh-place time of 23:17.16.
Senior Juliann Jordan (Kanehoe, Hawai'i) completed the race in 23:30.20 for ninth place, while freshman Kaitlin Baker (Rockford, Mich.) placed 10th with her 23:47.38 time to serve as Navy's displacing runners.
