Navy Rifle Opens Season With Victory

Oct. 7, 2006

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy rifle team began its season with a bang, outscoring the University of the Sciences at the Bancroft Rifle Range on Saturday morning. Individual and team scores were not available at the time of press.

"It was a good day for us in smallbore," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We showed good depth and got good performances from some people not on our counting team. I thought Chris Schneider shot very well with a 581.

"Our air rifle scores could have been better, but we'll take it for the first day," said Kelley. "It wasn't a bad start, but not a great start. We are heading out to Alaska in three weeks, and we will need to improve and pull it together as a team."

Navy will be off for three weeks, before traveling to Alaska and competing against Alaska-Fairbanks and Nebraska. The two teams finished 1-2 in last year's NCAA Championship.
