Navy Remains Undefeated With 9-0 Win Over Hobart

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 15th-ranked Navy squash team remained perfect over the weekend and on the year with its 9-0 win over No. 23 Hobart on Sunday morning in Annapolis. The win pushed Navy's record to 8-0 on the year, going 6-0 during the weekend. Hobart fell to 1-2 with the loss.

The Midshipmen won five of its six matches this weekend by a 9-0 score, dropping only two individual match-ups. On Sunday, the Mids needed only three games to claim victories in seven of the nine positions, while the other two won in four games.

Sophomore Christopher Zipf (Gladwyne, Pa.) finished the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record as he defeated Hobart's Ned Lanphier at the No. 7 slot in three games, 9-5, 9-6 and 9-5. Senior Dan Hellier (Modesto, Calif.) won all six of his weekend matches, claiming a three-game victory over Peter Hansen in the No. 8 position by scores of 9-5, 9-2 and 9-0.

Four other Midshipmen completed the weekend with a 5-0 mark. Freshman Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) won in three games at the No. 2 spot on Sunday, while junior Jeff Sawin (Haverford, Pa.) needed four games to take down Charlie Barth in the fourth-position. Freshman Ben Mantica (Binghamton, N.Y.) and junior Brian Hamilton (Lake Forest, Ill.) also came away victorious in three games at the sixth and ninth positions, respectively.

Navy team captain Tucker George (West Hartford, Conn.) won in three games by scores of 9-5, 9-0 and 9-1 over Hobart's Cale Forgues at the top spot on Sunday. Sophomore Michael Beautyman Jr. (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) also registered a three-game match victory, defeating Brian Shiver, 9-3, 9-3 and 9-7.

The Midshipmen return to action on Friday, Nov. 17, when they travel to Hanover, N.H., to take on Dartmouth at 5 p.m.
