COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Navy rifle team ended day one in sixth place after firing a 2303 in the smallbore portion of the 2006 NCAA Rifle Champiosnhips held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The Mids trail surprise leader Jacksonville State by 36 points.
Jacksonville State leads pre-tournament favorite, Alaska-Fairbanks, by 10 points. JSU had all four shooters shoot at least 580, overcoming UAF's Jamie Beyerle's 593.
Navy, meanwhile, was led by Josh Albright's 580. Chris Schneider added a 579, Christina Schade a 575 and Lisa Kunzelman a 569. The Mids are in sixth place behind Jacksonville State (2339), Alaska-Fairbanks (2329), Nebraska (2322), Army (2316) and Murray State (2310).
Action will conclude on Saturday with the air rifle portion.
