PEARL HARBOR, Hawai'i -- The Navy tennis team concluded its trip to Hawai'i with a 6-1 setback to the University of New Mexico on Thursday night. The match was played on the Naval base at Pearl Harbor.
"We played some good matches, but New Mexico is a very good team," said Navy head coach John Officer. "The difference between today and yesterday is that New Mexico finished the points and we didn't. We have to do a better job finishing points in the middle of the court. We got some more good experience playing a good team and it will help us down the road in league play."
Navy's lone win came at No. 6 singles, where Alex James scored a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over Chandler Brass. Navy competed hard in doubles point, falling at No. 2 doubles, 8-5, and No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Navy will return home for its first outdoor home match of the season next Wednesday against Penn at the Naval Academy Tennis Courts.
