Navy Tennis Team Blanks Lafayette

April 1, 2006

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy scored an impressive 7-0 victory over Lafayette in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Naval Academy tennis courts. The win improves Navy's record to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.

"I thought we played very well and played with a lot of confidence today," said Navy head coach John Officer. "Lafayette played a very close match with American yesterday, so it was an encouraging day for us."

The Mids won four-of-six matches in singles play in straight sets and dominated doubles to earn the point.

Nate Nelms was the first player off in singles play, posting an impressive 6-2, 6-2, victory at No. 1 singles.

"Nate played outstanding today. He served very well and won a number of points by aces," said Officer.

Stanley Kahl, Alex James and Jason Hill also scored straight sets victories. Hill may have won Navy's biggest match of the day, scoring a straight-set victory over Lafayette's Andrew Mott, who was an All-League performer a year ago.

"Jason played extremely well today and won a lot of big points," said Officer. "He played very smart as well."

Scores were not available as of press time.

The Mids will continue their Patriot League season on Sunday with a noon matchup at American.
