Final Stats
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Jason Hill (So., Atlanta, Ga.) improved his overall record to 5-1 and Adrian Lai (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) improved to 4-2 as Navy closed its opening weekend of play Sunday afternoon against Maryland as part of the final day at the Navy Invitational. The Midshipmen and the Terrapins split the six singles matches Sunday on The Yard, with Maryland also taking two of the three doubles matches.
Lai was the only Mid to have a hand in two victories Sunday, with his first coming as he teamed with Stanley Kahl at No. 3 doubles for an 8-5 win over Aaron Carr and John O'Rourke. Playing later in the day at No. 4 singles against Carr, Lai dropped the first set 6-0, but evened the match with a 6-1 win in the second set. The final set would go to a tiebreaker, which Lai won by a score of 7-0.
Lai was 2-1 in both singles and doubles on the weekend, while Hill was 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. Hill's lone loss in doubles came Sunday as he and Johnny Waters (Jr., Papillion, Neb.) dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 2 to Boris Fetbroyt and David Kwon, but he would remain unbeaten in singles after posting a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Louis Lavallee.
Navy's remaining victory on the day came at No. 5 singles where Ramsey Lemaich (Fr., Danville, Calif.) recorded a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) win over O'Rourke.
Navy will continue its fall season in two weeks when the Mids take part in the North Carolina Invitational Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
