EASTON, Pa. - The Navy volleyball team saw its offense record its second-lowest hitting percentage of the season in suffering a three-game loss to Lafayette Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pa. The Leopards (6-8, 1-1 Patriot League) held a .212-.119 advantage in hitting percentage in winning the match by scores of 30-25, 30-26, 30-23 over the Midshipmen (6-9, 1-1 Patriot League).
"We did not play today with the same focus and intensity we showed Friday night," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "We also failed to match the levels demonstrated by Lafayette."
Navy won a five-game, two-hour match Friday night at Lehigh, while the Leopards had Friday off from competition after dropping a four-game match to American Thursday night.
The Mids failed to find any offensive rhythm during Saturday's match, with Schwob playing three setters and 13 of the 15 players traveling on the trip. The only lower attack percentage recorded by Navy during a match this season was a .090 mark against TCU.
Jessie Sims (So., Etowah, N.C.) led Navy with 12 kills, while Rachel Dougherty (Jr., Derwood, Md.) and Nikki England (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) both added nine kills. Sims just missed a double-double with nine kills, while Dougherty and England combined for 22 digs.
Navy will play back-to-back home matches this week, starting Friday night with the Star Match against Army and ending Saturday evening with a match against Holy Cross. Both of those contests are slated to begin at 7 p.m., with Friday's match to be contested in Alumni Hall and Saturday's match to be played in Macdonough Hall.
Friday's Army match will also serve as the AVCA's Match of the Week and will be telecast by CSTV Oct. 1.
