FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Navy men's cross country junior runner John Kress (Colorado Springs, Colo.) raced to a 29th-place finish to guide the Midshipmen to a 19th-place performance out of 34 teams at the 2006 Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday.

This year's invitational featured nine teams ranked among the top-30 in the nation, including three schools in the top-10.

Arizona claimed team title honors with a team score of 142 points, followed by host Minnesota's 153 points and Virginia's 173 points. Navy's 464 points were seven more than 18th-place team Cornell and 28 fewer than 20th-place Southern Utah. The Midshipmen also finished four spots ahead of Air Force, who finished the day with 627 points in 23rd place.

Kress covered the 8k Les Bolstad Golf Course in 25:25.95, 1:11.90 behind individual champion Josh McDougal's time from Liberty. The Navy junior has posted Navy's fastest time in each of the last-two meets.

Classmate John Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered Navy's second-best time, 42nd overall, with a 25:39.65 showing. Senior Michael Niemi (Duluth, Minn.) finished 119th with a time of 26:23.95, followed by sophomore Andrew Grant's (Athens, Ga.) 26:36.05 clocking and freshman Chris Horel's (Belford, N.J.) 166th-place time of 26:46.00.
