PRINCETON, N.J. -- The No. 13-ranked Navy water polo team never trailed in dealing No. 18-ranked Princeton a 13-8 setback on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Navy's record to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in CWPA Southern Division league play.
Navy started fast, jumping out to a 5-2 lead after one quarter. Princeton narrowed the margin to 5-4 at halftime, but the Mids outscored the Tigers, 4-1, in the third quarter to take a 9-5 advantage into the final quarter. Navy outscored Princeton, 4-3, in the final quarter for the final 13-8 margin.
The win was Navy's eighth in a row over Princeton, dating back to Oct. 2005.
Mike Mulvey continued his stellar season with four goals and an assist. Kevin Bell and Aaron Recko scored three goals each. Bram Arnold contributed two goals, while Eric Gardiner rounded out Navy's goal total with one tally. George Naughton made eight saves in goal with seven goals allowed, while Steve Craney stopped two shots in goal in a reserve role.
The Mids will battle Bucknell and St. Francis (N.Y.) on Sunday in Lewisburg, Pa., beginning at 10:00 am.
