ANNAPOLIS, Md.--The Navy tennis team fell to 3-3 on Saturday afternoon with a tough 6-1 loss to Maryland (3-0).
"It was a very competitive match, we had some guys play tough," said Navy head coach John Officer. "Maryland is a very good team that should be in the national rankings next week. It was the type of match we like to play to get us ready for Patriot League play."
The Mids lost 5-1 in singles play with the only victory coming at #2 singles where Jason Hill defeated Nickolai Nielsen, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Nate Helms lost a tough match to Andy Orban at #1 singles, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5, while Ramsey Lemaich lost a tough match to Louis Lavalle at #5 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Navy lost the doubles point, but got a win from the #2 team of Adrian Lai and Stanley Kahl. Those two defeated Boris Fetbroyt and David Kwon, 8-6.
Navy will be back in action next Saturday when they play host to St. Joseph's (12 noon) and George Mason (5 p.m.) at the Severn Valley Tennis Club.
