ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 10th-ranked Midshipmen squash team defeated No. 19 Rochester, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at the Halsey Field House in Annapolis. Navy finished its home invitational with a 4-0 record and took a step closer to reaching the 20-win milestone as the Mids own a 17-6 record.

"We finished off a great weekend of squash with a win over a very good and much-improved Rochester team," said Navy head coach Craig Dawson.

Sophomore Alastair Smith (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned a solid win against Rochester junior Pat Harris at the No. 3 position. Smith, who is ranked 97th in the country, won the opening two games, 9-3, 9-4, before 113rd-ranked Harris stole the third game, 9-7. Smith earned the point for the Mids by winning the fourth game, 9-3.

Senior Dan Hellier (Modesto, Calif.) swept second-year player Ori Goldman at the No. 8 spot, 9-4, 10-8, 9-5, while junior Brian Hamilton (Lake Forest, Ill.) posted a 9-2, 9-2, 9-4 victory over Rochester senior Elie Biel at No. 9.

Sophomore Michael Beautyman Jr (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) lost a heartbreaker in five games against Rochester rookie Alex Lee. Lee won the first two games, 9-2, 9-3, before Beautyman Jr fought back to take games three and four, 9-5 and 9-4, respectively. Lee, however, claimed the No. 5 match with a 9-2 decision in the fifth game.

Rochester freshman Jim Bristow, ranked 12th in the nation, proved to be too much for No. 38 Tucker George (West Hartford, Conn.) of Navy, as Bristow took the match in three games.

Finally, Jeff Sawin (Haverford, Pa.) capped off his undefeated weekend with a 9-4, 9-5, 9-3 triumph over Jamal Callendar in the No. 4 match.

The Mid will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to face 13th-ranked Cornell at 9:00 am, followed by a 2:00 pm matchup against No. 16 Tufts.
