BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic won the doubles point and posted five straight-set singles victories on its way to recording a 6-1 victory over the Navy tennis team, Wednesday afternoon at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, Fla.
"Florida Atlantic is a good team who played very well today," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We played okay, but not good enough. It was a case where FAU had a little too much firepower for us today. However, we feel facing a team like this will only help us as we prepare for the start of our Patriot League season in 10 days."
Navy's (6-9) lone point of the day was recorded by Alex James (Jr., Visalia, Calif.), who posted a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Lawrence Harradine at No. 6 singles.
The Mids also saw their No. 1 doubles team of Jason Hill (So., Marietta, Ga.) and Nate Nelms (So., St. Mary's, Ga.) tally an 8-4 victory over Karol Szmurlo and Corey Smith, but Florida Atlantic (6-8) won the remaining two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Navy will next play March 21 when the Mids face Penn in Philadelphia.
