Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's lacrosse team started strong, but couldn't withstand a second-half rally, falling to Anne Arundel Community College, 16-14, on Monday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The loss was Navy's second in a row and first this year against a Non-Division I team and dropped the Mids to 5-3 overall.

Navy started the game strong, jumping out to a 4-0 lead just mine minutes into the game. Four different players scored goals for the Mids in the early spurt. Navy still led 5-1, before the Pioneers started to cut into the lead. The Pioneers cut the lead to two three different times in the first half, before Navy's Amanda Towey scored with just 11 seconds left before halftime for an 8-5 Navy advantage.

However, the Pioneers came out firing in the second half, scoring the first seven goals of the half in just 13 minutes for a 12-8 cushion. The Mids rallied, scoring the next four goals, including two by senior co-captain Elise Chapdelaine, to tie the score at 12 with 11:16 to play.

Anne Arundel Community College scored the next two goals to grab a 14-12 cushion, but Chapdelaine closed out her hat trick with 5:40 left to trim the margin to 14-13. However, the Pioneers ended Navy's threat scoring the next two goals with the last one coming with 2:31 to play for the 16-14 decision.

Towey led the Mids with seven points (5 g, 2 a), while Kaylene Klingenstein tallied four points (3 g, 1 a). Chapdelaine tallied three points (3 g) and freshman Mary Ruttum scored three points (1 g, 2 a). Valerie Cappelaere and Sarah Bushong scored one goal each. Natalie Blandon stopped 11 shots, while giving up 14 goals in the cage.

Navy will host Catonsville Community College on Saturday, at 1:00 pm, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
