2007 Patriot League Golf Championship - Final Results

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Despite turning in the low round of the day, a 14-over par 294, Navy (886, +46) was unable to catch Bucknell (883, +43) in the final round of action, finishing as the runner-up at the 2007 Patriot League Golf Championship held Saturday and Sunday at the Bucknell University Golf Course in Lewisburg, Pa.

Bucknell, who was led by senior Charlie Waddell's final-round 68 (-2), defended its Patriot League title by edging the Midshipmen by just three strokes. Meanwhile, Army headed into the final round as the tournament leader, but dropped to third after posting its worst showing of the weekend with a 22-over par 302 to finish two strokes behind Navy. Lehigh (890, +50) finished fourth, two strokes behind Army, after carding its lowest round of the tourney (295, +15). Colgate pitched a 68-over par 908 to round out the top five, followed by Lafayette and Holy Cross who tied for sixth with a 73-over par 913.

"We caught Army, but we weren't able to catch Bucknell today," said Navy head coach Pat Owen. "We had good scores today, but we were just a couple of putts short. I was really proud of the effort of the Midshipmen as they showed great leadership and poise. I'm very proud of their performance. We hope to learn from the experience and build on it for next year."

Holy Cross' Matt Czarnecki and Navy junior Chris Renninger (Darnestown, Md.) were deadlocked heading into the final round of action, as both carded a 1-over par 41. Czarnecki held off Renninger by posting a 1-over par 71 on Sunday to claim individual medalist honors. Renninger, meanwhile, was just a stroke behind, finishing the tournament in second place with a 3-over par 213 and garnered All-Patriot League recognition for the second-straight year.

In addition to Renninger, sophomore Chip Hardie (Arnold, Md.) earned all-league kudos after tying for sixth with a 12-over par 222. The Broadneck High School product moved up from ninth to sixth after turning in a 4-over par 74 in the final round.

Sophomore John Montemayor (Woodbridge, Va.) finished just one stroke out of the top 10, as he tied for 12th with a 16-over par 226. Montemayor was tied for 15th heading into the final day, but his 6-over par 76 in the final round kept him from earning all-league recognition.

Second-year standout Eric Stinson (Spotsylvania, Va.) turned in Navy's second-lowest round of the day with a 3-over par 73. He moved up from his 28th-place spot on day one to finish the tournament in a tie for 19th with an 18-over par 228.

Ryan Wielgus (Bethesda, Md.), the 2006 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, finished the tournament in 26th after turning in a 20-over par 230, while senior captain Jeremy Garner (Fayetteville, Ga.) played his final round at Navy where he posted a 5-over par 75 to finish in 30th (232, +22).
