ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's lacrosse team scored the last five goals of the first half and breezed home with a 14-5 decision over the Maryland Club team. The win moves Navy's record to 11-3 overall, while Maryland drops to 8-2 overall.
The Mids jumped out to a 2-0 cushion in the first four minutes on goals by Elise Chapdelaine and Amanda Towey. Maryland trimmed the lead to 2-1, but the Mids went on a 3-0 run over seven minutes for a 5-1 cushion. Maryland scored to make the score 5-2 with 10:39 to play in the opening stanza, but Navy ended the half on a 5-0 spurt, including a trio of goals from Towey.
Navy then coasted in the second half, as Erin Rawlick scored three goals to lead Navy to a 14-5 victory.
Towey led the way with six goals and three assists, while Rawlick, a freshman tallied five goals. Chapdelaine scored twice and Mary Ruttum, another freshman, netted one goal. Natalie Blandon made 10 saves in the cage for the Mids.
Navy will travel to Division III Villa Julie College next Saturday, at 1:00 pm.
