PRINCETON, N.J. -- Navy won three games by a combined score of 41-10 during the Princeton Invitational, sweeping past Gannon, Santa Clara and Fordham. The wins move Navy's record to 6-1 overall.
In the day's first game, 12 players scored goals in a 19-1 rout of Gannon. Senior Aaron Recko (San Antonio, Texas), playing in his first game of the season after missing last weekend, tallied five goals. Eric Gardiner (Upland, Calif.), Chuck Baker (Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman Luke Baldwin (La Grange Park, Ill.) scored a pair of goals each, while eight others scored one goal each in the rout. George Naughton (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and Steve Craney (La Crescenta, Calif.) made seven saves each, while splitting action in goal.
Navy led 5-0 after one quarter, stretched the lead to 11-0 at halftime, 14-0 after three quarters, before settling in for the 18-goal victory.
In the second game of the day, Navy breezed to an 11-5 win over No. 17-ranked Santa Clara. Three players, Bram Arnold (Lemoore, Calif.), Recko and Mike Mulvey (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored twice each, while five players recorded one goal each. Navy led 4-2 after one quarter, 7-2 at halftime and 11-5 after three quarters. Naughton made four saves, while Craney had three.
In the final game, an 11-4 victory over Fordham, Aaron Recko led the way with three goals, while Bram Arnold scored twice and Mike Mulvey added one goal and two assists. Naughton recorded four saves, while Craney added three. The Mids led 4-2 after one quarter, 6-2 at halftime and 7-4 after three quarters, before outscoring the Rams, 4-0, in the fourth quarter.
The Mids will be in action next Friday night at Stanford, beginning at 7:00 pm local time, before competing in the NorCal Tournament next Saturday and Sunday.
