WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Navy men's soccer team played solid defense, but couldn't find the back of the net in drawing with Howard, 0-0, on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. The tie improves Navy's record to 4-8-2 overall, while Howard improves to 1-11-2.
The Mids continued their offensive struggles, being shut out for the fifth straight game, matching a school record set from Sept. 15, 2002 to Sept. 28, 2002. Navy's last goal came in the ninth minute against Bucknell on Sept. 27, and the Mids have been held scoreless in the last 569 minutes.
Howard had the better of play in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Mids, 7-3, with both teams recording had two shots on goal in the first half. Navy started to tilt the field in the second half and overtime sessions, outshooting the Bison, 10-8, including a 3-1 advantage in the overtime periods.
The Mids, however, managed only five shots on goal in playing their sixth overtime game of the year. Navy dropped to 3-1-2 in overtime contests.
Navy drew six corner kicks to Howard's two, while both teams were whistled for 10 fouls. Senior goalkeeper Nolan Grebb (Woodbury, N.J.) recorded seven saves in goal for Navy, while Adisa Bekoe recorded five saves for Howard.
The Mids will head to Worcester, Mass., on Saturday for a 3:00 pm kickoff against Patriot League-leader Holy Cross.
