ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior Adam Meyer (Bethesda, Md.) enjoyed a standout day, swimming to victories in three individual events to propel the Navy men's swimming team (5-0) to a 169-126 victory over visiting UMBC (1-2) on Friday afternoon at Lejeune Hall.
Meyer swept the two butterfly events, claiming the 100 in 57.07 and the 200 in 2:02.76, won the 200 breast (2:21.96) and also swam the second leg on the Midshipmen's meet-opening 200 medley relay victory.
Sophomores Erik Hunter (Placerville, Calif.) and Olaf Olson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) were also multi-event winners for Navy. Hunter touched first in both the 400 (4:00.09) and 800 freestyle (8:23.23), while Olson swept both diving boards.
"Overall, I was pleased with the performance of our team," said Navy head coach Bill Roberts. "Adam deserves special mention for his efforts today. We are pleased with today's result, but there's still work to be done."
The Mids, off to a perfect 5-0 start in the dual meet season, won 11 of the 16 events to top the reigning America East champion Retrievers for a fifth straight time. Navy now holds a 14-2 advantage in the all-time series and has won seven of the eight meets held in Lejeune Hall.
The Navy men's team will continue its season Nov. 8 when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa., to compete against league foes American, Bucknell and Lafayette.
