ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy middle blockers Krista Eschelman (Jr., Germantown, Md.) and Alexa Gibbs (Sr., Springfield, Ill.) combined for 17 kills and a .518 attack percentage in helping the Midshipmen to a 25-6, 25-20, 25-15 victory over Coppin State Tuesday night in a non-conference volleyball match played in Macdonough Hall.

Navy (15-10) quickly scored nine of the first 10 points of the opening set on its way to winning the opening frame. The Mids promptly built a 14-7 lead in the second set to try and pull away from the Eagles (0-21), but Coppin State soon tied the set at 15-15. The score remained very tight over the next several points until the Mids took a 22-20 lead on a Coppin State service error. Aubrey Manes (Jr., Pratt, Kan.) then knocked down back-to-back kills for the Mids to take Navy to set point, which it converted on a kill from Eschelman.

The Mids then scored 13 of the first 16 points of set number three en route to closing out the match in just 55 minutes.

"We played a lot of people and everyone who took to the court kept our level of play very high," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "There wasn't a drop off in either effort or performance for us. That's what we expect out of our bench."

Navy as a team totaled a hitting percentage of .262 and held Coppin State to a -.029 percentage. The Mids also tallied nine aces and 34 digs and limited the Eagles to a pair of aces and 16 digs. Coppin State held a big advantage in the match in blocks, though, recording 9.0 team blocks to just 2.0 for Navy.

Eschelman led all players in the match with nine kills, with Gibbs adding eight kills and a .583 attack percentage. Defensively for the Mids, Holly Berger (Fr., Claremont, Calif.) paced all players with 10 digs.

Brittany Arvin led Coppin State with four kills and six blocks.

Navy will return to Patriot League play Thursday night when the Mids take on American in a 7 p.m. match in Macdonough Hall. The match is Navy's last home contest of the season. The team will host a poster autograph session immediately following the conclusion of the match.
