PRINCETON, N.J. - Navy women's cross country runner Amy Watson (Jr./Hampstead, Md.) earned all-region honors to lead the Midshipmen to a seventh-place finish out of 26 teams at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championship on the Princeton Cross Country Course Saturday.
Princeton and West Virginia tied for the regional title with 51 points to both earn spots at the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 24. Villanova came in third with 59 points, followed by Georgetown's 90 points, Penn State's 140 points, Maryland's 226 points, Navy's 240 points and Bucknell's 273 points.
Watson, the Patriot League Champion two weeks ago, completed the 6k race in 22:24 to land 21st out of 191 runners. She finished 1:13 behind Frances Koons' winning time of 21:11 from Villanova.
Katie Rentz (So./San Diego, Calif.) finished in 23:17 for 41st place, followed by Jess Palacio's (Fr./Sun Valley, Nev.) 23:45 clocking for 57th place. Erica Ziel (Jr./Saginaw, Mich.) landed in 60th place with a time of 23:48 and Maureen Dooley (Sr./Durham, Conn.) completed the scoring five with a 23:52 showing.
Marina McGrail (Fr./Manchester, Vt.) and Lexa Gass (Jr./Crescent, Pa.) also competed for the Mids on Saturday. McGrail finished the race in 23:53 for 69th place and Gass placed 77th with a 24:09 effort.
