Navy Squash Extends Winning Streak to 12 in a Row

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Columbia squash team was unable to solve a potent Navy offense, as the Midshipmen turned in an 8-0 victory over the Lions Saturday afternoon at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts on the second day of the Navy Veterans Weekend Tournament. The Mids have won 12 consecutive matches dating back to Halloween night when they opened the 2008-09 campaign with a 9-0 sweep over Cal.

"We looked a little stiff out there today after playing three matches yesterday, but I thought we played very well," said Navy head coach Craig Dawson. "I was very pleased with our effort."

A day after senior Michael Beautyman Jr (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) earned his 50th collegiate win, junior Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) added his name to the milestone list following a 9-4, 9-1, 9-1 victory over Columbia's Clayton Dahlman on Saturday.

Senior Christopher Zipf (Gladwyne, Pa.) claimed his 60th-career win by handing Daniel Gentile a 9-2, 9-0, 9-3 setback at the No. 3 position. Zipf is now 9-0 this season with Saturday's matchup the highest he's played in the lineup this year.

Rookie Clayton Young (River Forest, Ill.) picked up win No. 7 this season, giving up just three points in the 3-0 win. Young defeated Columbia's Zachary Ali, 9-0, 9-3, 9-0 at the No. 6 slot. Meanwhile, fellow newcomer John Tracey (Owings Mills, Md.) saw action for just the third time this season, defeating Clay Wiske, 9-1, 9-3, 9-1.

Finally, senior Will Pappas (Philadelphia, Pa.) took a 9-0, 9-1, 9-1 win over Rohan Khatau at No. 7 to push his season mark to 6-0.

The Midshipmen conclude play in the Navy Veterans Weekend Tournament on Sunday with a 10:00 am date with Hobart.
