HANOVER, N.H. - After jumping out to a 13-0 record to start to the 2008-09 squash season, the Navy Midshipmen suffered their first setback of the year, dropping a 9-0 decision to Dartmouth Friday night at the Dartmouth Fall Classic in Hanover, N.H. Not only was it Navy's first loss of the season, it marked the first time an opponent has won a game against the Mids since last year's College Squash Association Team Championship.

The Big Green took seven of the nine matches in three games, including a hard-fought match between the top two players from each program. While Dartmouth senior Ted Newhouse prevailed, Navy junior Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) pushed Newhouse on every point before succumbing, 9-6, 10-8, 9-7.

Navy sophomore Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.) looked to be in control early on in his match, shutting out Dartmouth's Nick Sisodia in the opening game. Sisodia, however, evened the match at one win apiece when he picked up a 9-6 victory in game two. He went on to earn 9-1 wins in back-to-back matches to take the 3-1 decision over Lutz at the No. 2 position.

After dropping a 9-1 decision in the opening game, senior Michael Beautyman Jr (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) fought back to knot the match following a 9-4 win in the second. Lee, though, would not be denied as he turned in 9-6 wins in game three and four to take the match.

"We had some good efforts, but we were outplayed," said head coach Craig Dawson.

The Mids will look to bounce back on Saturday when they face Tufts (11:00 am) and MIT (4:00 pm) in the second day of action at the Dartmouth Fall Classic. Navy owns a 28-0 all-time record against Tufts and a 47-0 mark against MIT.
