HANOVER, N.H. - The 12th-ranked Navy squash team closed out action at the Dartmouth Fall Classic Sunday morning with an 8-1 victory over Connecticut College. The Mids turned in a 3-1 record on the weekend and improved to 16-1 overall. Just under halfway through the season, the Mids' 16 victories equal last year's win total.

The Mids opened the competition with a tough loss at the No. 1 position in what was a spectacular match between two highly competitive foes. Navy junior Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) struck first with a 10-9 victory, however Connecticut College freshman Antonio Diaz-Gonzalez Salas took a 2-1 lead in the match after capturing games two and three, 9-3 and 9-4, respectively. Mattsson, though, knotted the match at two apiece when he took game four, 10-9. He would eventually succumb in the fifth game, 9-5, to drop just his second match of the 2008-09 campaign.

While Navy dropped its No. 1 match, it bounced back with 3-0 sweeps in each of the remaining eight matches. Second-year standout Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.) turned in a 9-2, 9-0, 9-1 win over junior Kevin Coscarelli, while senior Allen Hartley (Charleston, W.Va.) blanked Blay Bradley twice in route to his 3-0 win.

Junior Justin Langan (St. Louis, Mo.) earned a 9-1, 9-1, 9-0 victory over Connecticut College rookie Ben Bainbridge at No. 7, while senior Michael Beautyman Jr (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) surrendered just one point en route to a 9-0, 9-1, 9-0 triumph over Hunter Siegel.

The squash team will play its part in the action in Philadelphia, Pa., in leading up to the annual Army-Navy football game played at Lincoln Financial Field on Dec. 6. Navy squash will battle seventh-ranked Penn on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Ringe Courts in Philadelphia beginning at 7:00 pm. The Navy women's and men's basketball teams will face the Quakers in Philly on Friday, Dec. 5, at 3:00 and 7:00 pm, respectively.
