ANNAPOLIS, Md.--The Navy men's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the year with a 6-1 victory over Villanova (0-1) Saturday night at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
"We played a very competitive Villanova team tonight and played very well," said Navy head tennis coach John Officer. "Nate Nelms played fantastic once again as well as all three doubles teams."
The Mids took the doubles point by sweeping the Wildcats in all three matches. Nelms and John Waters won at number one doubles, 8-5; Alex James and Ramsey Lemaich won at number two doubles, 8-1 and Jason Hill and Nick Birger won at number three doubles, 8-2.
Navy won five of six single matches including Nelms at number one (6-2, 6-1), Waters at number two (7-5, 6-2), Hill at number three (6-1, 3-6, 6-1), James at number five (6-2, 6-2) and Owen Bullard at number six (6-0, 7-6(5)). Villanova's only win came at number four singles where Trenton Alenik defeated Ramsey Lemaich, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
The Mids are back in action next Saturday when they travel to College Park to take on the Maryland Terrapins at 12 noon.
