ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's cross country team captain Bill Prom (Sr./New Berlin, Wis.) placed fourth overall to lead the Midshipmen to a first-place score out of 14 teams in the Navy Invitational on a hot and humid Saturday morning.

Each of Navy's top-five runners finished among the overall top-20 times to rack up 64 points. Richmond came in second with 80 points, followed by Maryland's 85 points, Malone's 99 points and Virginia Commonwealth's 126 points to round out the top-five teams.

"We ran a hot race today," stated Navy head coach Al Cantello. "We were not concerned with the times."

Prom, the reigning Patriot League Runner of the Week, boasted the team's best time and finished among the overall top-five for the second-straight week. Prom completed the 8k course in 24:59.1, good for a 5:01.6 average mile.

Andrew Hanko (So./Montville, N.J.) placed 10th with a time of 25:25.4, followed by Matt Leyndyke's (Sr./Traverse City, Mich.) 15th-place time of 25:41.2 and Ricky Griffith's (Jr./Piedmont, Calif.) 25:46.7 showing for 16th place. Matthew De Villers (So./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) rounded out Navy's scoring-five with a time of 26:00.6.

The Midshipmen will return to action next Saturday when they head up to Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., for the Iona Meet of Champions. Race time is slated for 10:15 a.m.
