Navy Finishes Fourth at Iona Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y. - Navy men's cross country runner Andrew Hanko (So./Montville, N.J.) produced the 10th-best time on the day to lead the Midshipmen to a fourth-place finish out of 24 teams at the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday morning in Van Cortlandt Park.

No. 8 Michigan led all team with an impressive 39-point showing, followed by Penn State's 121 points and No. 4 Iona's 153 points. Navy racked up 197 points to edge fellow Patriot League foe Lehigh's 205 points for fourth place.

Racing among a field of 277 runners, Hanko averaged a 5:00 mile over the 8k course to finish in 25:03.6. His showing ranks as the 19th-fastest Navy time in program history at Van Cortlandt Park. The Navy sophomore completed the race 39.5 seconds behind individual champion Cameron Levin's time of 24:24.1 from Southern Utah.

Team captain Bill Prom (Sr./New Berlin, Wis.), the reigning Patriot League Runner of the Week, boasted the team's second-best time on Saturday. He finished in 25:35.8 for 41st place.

Ricky Griffith (Jr./Piedmont, Calif.) placed 47th with a 25:41.7, followed by Matthew De Villers (So./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) time of 25:51.8 for 56th place and Matt Leyndyke's (Sr./Traverse City, Mich.) 26:02.5 clocking for 64th place to round out the team's scoring five.

The Midshipmen will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they head up to the Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minn. Race time is slated for 12:10 p.m. ET.
