PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Lisa Kunzelman earned medalist honors in both disciplines, leading the fifth-ranked Navy rifle team to a 4606 - 3938 victory over the University of the Sciences on Friday afternoon. The win improves Navy's record to 13-1 overall.

Kunzelman scored a 581 in smallbore and a 589 in air rifle to pace the Mids. Kunzelman continues to have a strong season, entering the meet with a 572.6 smallbore average and a 587.1 air rifle average.

"Anytime you can score an 1170 aggregate, that is a heck of a score," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We have come to expect that out of her. She is a senior captain and team leader and she continues to perform that way. She is shooting at a very high level right now in both guns."

Navy rebounded from an average performance last weekend to shoot over 4600 for the first time since Oct. 12, against MIT (4623). The score was 19 points better than the last time Navy shot on paper targets (Jan. 18 vs. Akron at Palmyra). Paper targets tend to score lower than electronic targets.

"We showed some improvement today over last weekend, and that is what we wanted to see," said Kelley. "It was a good performance. We feel pretty good about our score tonight."

Navy dominated both disciplines in cruising to the victory. The Mids outscored USP, 2282 - 1892, in smallbore. Besides Kunzelman's score of 581, Chris Burleson contributed a solid 577. Alex Karacsonyi fired a 568 and Alison Lankes shot a 556.

Navy then won the air rifle discipline as well, 2324 - 2056. Karacsonyi totaled a 582, Burleson scored a 581 and Lankes tallied a 572.

The same two teams will compete on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:00 am.
