POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The 12th-ranked Navy squash team concluded his busy weekend with a 9-0 victory over winless Vassar Saturday morning in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Mids turned in a 3-1 record on the weekend, dropping their lone match to No. 3 Yale Saturday in New Haven. Navy is now 21-4, just three wins shy of tying the school record.
Navy senior captain Christopher Zipf (Gladwyne, Pa.) inched closer to career win No. 70, as he put away sophomore Arjun Jain, 9-0, 9-0, 9-0, to improve to 69-32 during his four-year career and 18-4 this season.
Also pitching a shutout was sophomore Tommy McNamara (New York, N.Y.) who stopped Vassar sophomore Kyle Holter in three games at No. 8. McNamara, who is in his first season with the varsity team, owns an 18-3 record this season.
At the No. 3 position, junior Ben Mantica (Binghamton, N.Y.) pushed his season mark to 18-4 behind a 9-0, 9-3, 9-0 victory over senior Jake Kantrowitz, while senior Will Pappas (Philadelphia, Pa.) captured his 10th win of the year thanks to a 9-0, 9-1, 9-1 win over David Prentice at the No. 9 slot.
Meanwhile, second-year standout Brad Seidel (Toledo, Ohio) held Henk Isom pointless in the first two games, before he finally relinquished a point en route to a 9-4 win in the three-game victory.
Navy will close out the home portion of its schedule next weekend when it plays host to round robin play at Halsey Field House. The Mids will open the weekend on Saturday against Rochester beginning at 12:00 pm, followed by a 4:00 pm date with Colgate and a nightcap against Penn State starting at 6:00 pm. Navy will battle Lehigh Valley foes on Sunday with a 9:00 am battle against Lafayette and a 12:00 pm matchup against Lehigh.
