ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Team captain Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) helped anchor a Navy effort that led the squash program to a 9-0 victory over No. 28 Hobart on Sunday morning and complete a perfect sweep in the Mids' six matches over the weekend. Under the direction of 10th-year Navy head coach Craig Dawson, the 14th-ranked Mids stand 12-1 with just a handful of matches remaining before the holiday break.

"We had a successful weekend of squash and I think what really paid off for us was our conditioning and our depth," said Dawson, who just a year ago led the Mids to a school-record 27 wins. "Our weight training has certainly paid off and the ability to play as many as 14 players this weekend gave us the proper rest we needed to to get ready for the next opponent."

Mattsson, who defeated Hobart's top player Corey Kabot in three games, won four matches over the weekend and improved to 6-1 on the year. Additionally, Mattsson along with classmate Ben Mantica (Binghamton, N.Y.), captured their 74th career victories which is tied as the second-most wins by a Navy player under Dawson's leadership. Jeff Sawin, a member of the Class of 2008, holds the record, claiming 89 wins.

The aforementioned Mantica owns a 10-1 record this season and claimed an 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 win over Hobart's Grant Palermo on Sunday.

Fellow senior Justin Langan (St. Louis, Mo.) claimed his 11th win of the season by way of an 11-2, 11-5, 11- victory over Carl Ranieri. In two seasons as a member of the Mids' varsity unit, Langan now owns a 35-10 career record.

Meanwhile, improving to a flawless 13-0 was Tommy McNamara (New York, N.Y.), who picked up a three-game sweep over Edgardo Gonzalez at the No. 9 position.

The only player to who gave up a game against the Statesmen was junior Brad Seidel (Toledo, Ohio). After opening the match against George Riggs with an 11-3 win, Riggs came back to even the match behind an 11-9 victory. Seidel, however, went on to take game three, 11-8, and blanked Riggs in the fourth to earn the win.

Navy will play its final home match before the turn of the calendar year when it plays host to eighth-ranked Dartmouth next Saturday. Action is set for 11:00 am at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts on the grounds of the Naval Academy.
