COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Tara Chapmon (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Toni Paruso (Fr., Savannah, Ga.) both advanced to the championship final of an individual event for the Navy women's swimming team Friday on the second day of the Terrapin Cup invitational meet being held on the Maryland campus in College Park.
"This was a difficult day for us," said Navy head coach John Morrison. "The morning session really set us back. It was not up to the goals that we had set for ourselves or were capable of. We need to have a big day Saturday."
Navy enters Saturday's final day of the meet in sixth place with 200 points.
Chapmon placed fifth in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.49, while Paruso finished in seventh place in the 100 butterfly with a clocking of 56.63. Paruso would also score points for Navy with a 24th-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Additional Mids to tally points for Navy Friday night were Allison Ranzau (Jr., Alpharetta, Ga.), who finished in 15th place in the 200 free, Mallory Dietrich (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Kellie Darmody (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) with 16th-place showings in the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, respectively, and Natalie Albertson (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.), who placed 21st in the 400 individual medley.
Navy closed the meet by having its 800 freestyle relay team place 11th.
