COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Navy women's swimming and diving team concluded the Terrapin Cup Invitational Saturday with 297 points and placing sixth in the field of 10 teams over the three-day meet held on the Maryland campus in College Park.
"We were very pleased with how today went," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison. "We did not have a good day on Friday, but we hit the blocks ready to go today and our performances were much better. It was great to see us respond the way we did today."
Highlighting the individual event performances for Navy on the day were Thuy-Mi Dinh (Sr., Anaheim, Calif.) and Mallory Dietrich (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.). Dinh placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.82, while Dietrich finished in fourth place in the 200 breaststroke with her clocking of 2:21.67.
Tara Chapmon (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) finished in eighth place in a pair of individual events Saturday. She first posted a time of 17:06.75 in the 1650 freestyle before recording a time of 2:05.96 in the 200 backstroke.
Other Mids to score points on the day were Madison Jones (Fr., Camas, Wash.) in the 1650 free and Toni Paruso (Fr., Savannah, Ga.) in the 200 fly. Jones finished in 16th place in the 1650 free with her time of 17:29.82, while Paruso placed 16th in the 200 fly with her posting of 2:09.10.
Navy then concluded the meet with a third-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay. Navy's foursome of Dinh, Chapmon, Daphne Williams (Fr., Lebanon, Ill.) and Allison Ranzau (Jr., Alpharetta, Ga.) posted a time of 3:27.62 in the event.
"Our 400 free relay was a great way to end the day and the meet," said Morrison. "It was a great boost for us. We learned a lot about ourselves over these last three days and we are excited to apply what we have learned."
Navy's next meet will be Dec. 10 when the Mids play host to Army in Lejeune Hall.
