WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The 2008-09 Navy squash season officially came to a close on Saturday when junior Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) and sophomore Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.) were eliminated from the 2009 College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championship held at the Simon Squash Courts at Williams College.

Saturday's morning session started off with a bang for the Mids as Mattsson advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw of the Molloy Division following a 9-2, 3-9, 10-8, 9-4 win over Franklin & Marshall's Gabriel de Melo. Meanwhile, Lutz put it on autodrive in a 9-2, 9-2, 9-7 victory over Williams' Christian Henze in the round of 16 in the second round consolation draw.

The Navy duo, however, did not fare as well in the afternoon, as both were bounced from the tournament with losses. Mattsson dropped a three-game decision (9-3, 9-3, 9-3) to Trinity's Chris Binnie, while Lutz fell short in a five-game heartbreaker against Joe Chapman of Rochester. After falling behind in the first game, Lutz came back to take a 2-1 lead in the match with back-to-back wins. Chapman managed to weather the storm by pulling off a 10-8 win in the fourth and closed out the match with a 9-5 victory in the fifth.

Mattsson finished the year with a 25-7 record, winning nine of his last 10 matches. Meanwhile, Lutz closed out his second season with a 27-9 mark, just short of tying former teammate Jeff Sawin for the most wins in a season under Craig Dawson's direction. Sawin won 28 matches during the 2006-07 season en route to a second-place finish in the Molloy Division of the CSA Individual Championship.
