WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy women's crew team completed its regular season in fine fashion on Saturday morning, as it came away with three victories over Georgetown on the Potomac River.
Navy's largest margin of victory came in the varsity eight race, as the Midshipmen crossed the finish line in a time of 6:17.0 - more than 10 seconds faster than Georgetown's 6:27.3 clocking.
"It was a great Navy day for us on the water," stated Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "Our performance in the first varsity race was especially good, considering that their times were comparable to ours last weekend at the George Washington Invitational, even though we didn't race head-to-head. We were able to make a few changes this week and found some more speed that showed up for us today."
In the second varsity eight race, Navy held a narrow lead late in the race, but was able to extend the margin at the end for a 3.9-second triumph, 6:29.0-6:32.9. Navy's novice eight led its race from start to finish to produce a 4.2-second victory, 6:32.9-6:37.1.
Navy's only setback came in the second novice eight event, as Georgetown mixed members from its varsity lightweight squad to beat the Midshipmen across the finish line, 6:43.6-7:01.9.
The Midshipmen (11-4) will head up to Cherry Hill, N.J., to compete for the Patriot League Championship on the Cooper River next Sunday, April 26.
