ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Following his titles in the all-around and floor exercise at the ECAC Championship last weekend, Navy's Dylan Parrott (So./Rockwell, N.C.) was named the national Collegiate Division Gymnast of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday night.
Parrott helped the Midshipmen to a second-place team finish at the ECAC Championship last Friday with a career-high score of 85.25 points in the all-around. His total was 0.35-point above second-place gymnast Andrew Stover from Illinois-Chicago. Parrott became the first Navy gymnast since Gerald Haran in 1988 to win the all-around at the conference championship.
The product of Rockwell, N.C., led all competitors on Friday night with a 15.1-point routine on the high bar and also placed second on the floor exercise with a 14.7-point showing. All together, he scored at least a 13.4 or higher in all-six disciplines.
The Navy sophomore advanced to the individual event finals on three apparatuses. He won the floor exercise finals with a season-high performance of 14.9 points. He also surpassed his season high on the parallel bars with a 14.2-point mark for third place.
Parrott, a 2009 USAG Collegiate Division All-American in the all-around, floor exercise and vault, earned the national gymnast-of-the-week honors for the third time this season. He first claimed the award after his performance at the Navy Open on Jan. 24, before being recognized for his showing at the All-Academy Championship on Feb. 14.
The 12th-ranked Midshipmen (15-4) will head to the NCAA Qualifying Meet as a team for the first time in program history on Thursday, April 16, in Minneapolis, Minn., at 1 p.m. CT.
