ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's tennis team won each of the three doubles matches and posted wins in two singles matches against Duquesne as part of the Navy Invitational Saturday morning in Annapolis.
The tightest doubles match took place at No. 1 doubles where Nick Birger (Belleville, Ill.) and Zach Nicholson (So., Bowie, Md.) held off the tandem of Mark Maciuch and Jeremy McClelland by the score of 9-7. Navy's No. 2 team of Owen Bullard and Eddie Konrad recorded an 8-3 win over Bryan Roberts and Kyle O'Leary, while Navy's Jeremy New (Jr., Glen Allen, Va.) and Jarrad Smoke (Sr., Belmar, N.J.) tallied an 8-2 victory over the No. 3 team of Gustavo Villares from Duquesne and Jared Teichman (So., Blue Bell, Pa.) from Navy.
In the singles portion of the match, Navy's Matt Richmond (Fr., Kalamazoo, Mich.) won a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Maciuch at No. 2 singles, while Bullard won a 6-3, 6-4 contest against Villares at the No. 3 flight.
Navy will close play in the Navy Invitational Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest against Temple.
