2009 Roy Griak Invitational Results
FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Paced by Andrew Hanko's (Jr./Montville, N.J.) 22nd-place performance, the Navy men's cross country team placed ninth out of 18 teams at the highly competitive Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Iowa State, the 25th-ranked team in the country, won the meet with 71 points, just three fewer than second-place Oklahoma. Duke placed third with 94 points, while host and 17th-ranked Minnesota finished fourth with 101 points. In total, 13 teams competing on Saturday were ranked among their region's top-15 programs.
The Midshipmen tallied 234 points for ninth place, nearly 100 points less than 11th-place Army. Navy had its top-seven runners cross the finish line before Army's fourth-quickest runner.
Hanko led the Midshipmen across the finish line for the third-consecutive week, as he covered the 8k course in 25:20.5. The Navy junior finished 43.0 seconds behind individual winner Hassan Mead from Minnesota.
Cody Rome (So./Eagle, Idaho) produced a 39th-place time of 25:40.8 and James Pearson (So./Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) recorded a 25:48.1 clocking for 44th place. Chris Horel (Sr./Belford, N.J.) placed 72nd with a 26:28.4 showing and was immediately followed by Jeremy Haney (So./Palmyra, Va.), who completed the team's scoring with a 73rd-place time of 26:28.6.
The Midshipmen will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Run. Race time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
