ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Winning its fifth consecutive match, the No. 14 Navy squash team (19-5) earned a 9-0 victory over 22nd-ranked George Washington (7-6) Wednesday evening at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts in Annapolis. While the Mids are just one win away from collecting their 20th of the season, 18 of the 19 Navy wins have come by a 9-0 count.

Though the Colonials were swept by the Mids, GW, however, did force an extra game in the No. 1 battle between 29th-ranked Nils Mattsson (Spring House, Pa.) of Navy and freshman sensation Omar Sobhy of George Washington. Mattsson opened the match with an 11-8 victory, however, Sobhy evened the match by taking game two, 11-6. But Mattsson put the after-burners on and claimed wins in the final two games, 11-3 and 11-6, to push his winning streak to seven in a row, while improving to 15-3 on the year.

Senior Justin Langan (St. Louis, Mo.), ranked 166th, fought off GW's highest ranked player, sophomore Jose Calderon at the No. 3 position. Langan dominated the match, winning 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 and earned his 17th win of the 2009-10 campaign.

Playing particularly strong since the holiday break is No. 4 player Brad Seidel (Toledo, Ohio), who picked up an 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 win over GW's Samuel Moreno. Seidel claimed his fifth straight win and is now 14-6 this season.

Navy junior Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.) played a solid match at No. 5, facing off against another powerful rookie from George Washington. Lutz opened up with an 11-3 win, but Player Haynes push his counterpart in the second game with Lutz edging him out, 12-10. Lutz sealed the match win in the third with an 11-6 victory.

Meanwhile, Navy's four rookie members of the ladder held strong by sweeping their respective foes. Among the quad, Hunter Bouchard (Greenville, Del.) and John Richey (West Hartford, Conn.) produced their 18th win to pace the team. Also boasting his 18th win of the season was senior Ben Mantica (Binghamton, N.Y.) who cruised past Matt Grossman, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9.

The Midshipmen will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to No. 2 Yale at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts. Action is set for 10:00 am and admission to the matches is free.
