Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's swimming and diving team posted wins in 13 of the 16 events on its way to recording a 172-128 victory over James Madison Friday afternoon at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis. The Midshipmen are now 3-0 on the young season, while the Dukes were competing in their first meet of the fall.

"It is nice to see our depth play a factor in today's result," said Navy head coach John Morrison. "We took some chances in a few of the races and they paid off. Everyone finished each race strong."

Four different Mids tallied multiple individual event victories on the day. Pacing all swimmers in the meet was Laura Gorinski (So., Greensburg, Pa.), who won both breaststroke events and the 200-m individual medley (2:22.80). Her 100-m breaststroke time of 1:12.14 ranks ninth in school history, while her 200-m time of 2:36.00 is the third-fastest clocking at Navy.

Kellie Darmody (So., Charlotte, N.C.), who won three events in Navy's season-opening meet last weekend, picked up a pair of wins Friday against the Dukes. She won the 100-m backstroke in a time of 1:04.87 and the 200-m back with a clocking of 2:21.59. Her 100 back time is the second-best time posted by a Mid in the event, while her 200 back time ranks fourth at the school.

Toni Paruso (So., Savannah, Ga.) also recorded two individual event wins during the meet. She swept the two butterfly events with winning times of 1:02.04 and 2:17.74, respectively. Both clockings rank third in their respective event in school history.

Rounding out the list of multiple event winners on the day was Rheanna Vaughn (Fr., Aliso Viejo, Calif.), who won the two distance freestyle races. She won the 800-m free with a time of 9:01.78 (the seventh-best time in the event at Navy) and the 400-m free in a time of 4:27.63.

Also winning races in the meet were Allison Ranzau (Sr., Alpharetta, Ga.) and Colleen Randolph (Fr., Annapolis, Md.). Ranzau won the 200-m free in a time of 2:07.12, while Randolph won the 50 free with a clocking of 27.34.

Navy as a team opened and closed the meet by winning the two relay races. The foursome of Olivia Kosaka (Fr., Burien, Wash.), Gorinski, Paruso and Darmody posted a time of 1:58.22 to win the 200-m medley relay by one second, with the team of Darmody, Randolph, Daphne Williams (So., Lebanon, Ill.) and Ranzau winning the 200-m freestyle relay by seven-hundredths of a second with its time of 1:48.48.

The Mids will be back in Lejeune Hall in one week when both Navy programs play host to UMBC on Oct. 22 in a 4 p.m. meet.
