ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Behind a dominant performance from senior Andrew Hanko, the Navy men's cross country team defeated Army, 20-41, on Saturday morning in Annapolis. Navy has now won 11 of the last 14 duals with Army, including four of the last five.
Hanko led the entire race and took first place with a time of 24:27 for his second straight individual title in the Star Meet.
"It feels really good," said Hanko. "Two years ago, we lost by one point here on our own course. So, it feels really good to come out on top today."
Cody Rome followed Hanko across the finish line, taking second place with a time of 24:50. Bryce Livingston was the Black Knight's first finisher as he took third with a time of 24:53.
After Navy's Ken Bunnell placed fourth with a time of 25:00, Army's Barrett LeHardy came in fifth with a time 25:13. The Mids then put the race away as they claimed the next seven spots.
Jeremy Haney (25:23), Matt DeVillers (25:23), Kyle Satterwhite (25:26), James Pearson (25:28), C.J. Elward (25:37), Dean Black (25:39) and Dominic DellaPelle (25:41) finished in sixth through 12th places to ensure Navy retained the Star.
"This meet - in midseason - is like a burr in the saddle," said Navy head coach Al Cantello. "Everyone is peaking for the end of the season. We'll get some downtime now."
The Mids will have next weekend off before they head to Easton, Pa., for the Patriot League Championships on Oct. 30.
