ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. - Heavy rain fell throughout the Washington D.C. metro area on Monday leaving the Courses at Andrews Air Force Base under water and unplayable, giving tournament organizers no other choice but to cancel the opening round of the annual Service Academy Golf Classic. The event will now be decided by a single round of play scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday.
The annual events pits Navy against its service academy rivals Army and Air Force, along with the Merchant Marine Academy. Navy will be represented in this year's tournament by juniors Andrew Haines (Kirtland, Ohio), Collier Jones (Little Rock, Ark.) and Tyler Kuhn (Louisville, Ky.), sophomores Pat Collins (Floral Park, N.Y.), Christopher Ceconi (Vienna, Va.) and Chris Reed (Springfield, Ohio), along with rookie Bobby Keating (Garden City, N.Y.).
Playing a split schedule, five other Midshipmen are in action Monday and Tuesday at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Monday's action includes 36 holes at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
