UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Navy women's cross country team placed 10th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon in University Park, Pa. The Mids finished with 329 points, just seven behind ninth-place Lehigh.

Junior Jess Palacio finished 21st overall with a time of 21:10 to lead Navy's effort. With her top-25 finish, Palacio earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. It was the best finish by a Navy runner at the regional championship since Amy Watson also placed 21st in 2008.

Palacio may still get the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Championship but will have to wait until 7 p.m. on Sunday when the at-large selections for teams and individuals are announced.

Villanova, ranked No. 1 in the nation, won the regional with 29 points. No. 5 Georgetown nabbed the second automatic NCAA Championship bid as it took second with 40 points.

"Jess ran great today and we're really hoping she gets a spot in the NCAA Championship," said Navy head coach Karen Boyle.

Sophomore Brigid Byrne was Navy's second finisher, placing 60th with a time of 22:18. Senior Beth Rahall followed in 72nd place, clocking a 22:39.

Sophomore Liz Milewski (22:50) and freshman Rachael Honrath (22:52) rounded out the scoring-five for Navy, as they finished 87th and 89th, respectively.

"I'm happy with how we competed today, we left everything out there," said Boyle.
