PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The 10th-ranked Penn squash team dealt No. 15 Navy just its third loss of the season when the Quakers cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Midshipmen Thursday evening at the Ringe Squash Courts in Philadelphia. Thursday's loss was the ninth in a row by the Mids against Penn, last defeating the Quakers in January of 2001.

"Although we lost 9-0, we played pretty well," said 11th-year Navy head coach Craig Dawson. "We had some competitive games throughout the match, but we just couldn't piece together consecutive games in order to win a match. Dartmouth is a tough team and I think it was good to get a match like this under our belt as we continue to progress."

The most competitve match of the evening was at the No. 7 slot where senior Tommy McNamara (New York, N.Y) pushed his match with Penn senior William Browne to four games after finding himself two games to none. Browne scored back-to-back 11-6, 11-5 wins before McNamara was able to gain the upper hand and steal game three, 11-7. McNamara fought to the end, however, as Browne needed extra points to the seal the match win in the fourth, 14-12.

Although junior Trevor McGuinness scored a 3-0 win over Navy junior John Tracey (Owings Mills, Md.), all three games were tight. McGuinness took the match by three-straight 11-9 decisions. Meanwhile, sophomore David Koenig (Cincinnati, Ohio) pushed his foe to the limit, dropping his 3-0 decision to freshman John Dudzik by way of 11-6, 12-10 and 11-8. Finally, Navy's top player, Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.), dropped an 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 match to Penn junior Thomas Mattsson, the younger brother of former Navy All-American and 2010 graduate Nils Mattsson.

The Midshipmen return to action on Friday when they head just a few streets down from the Penn campus to face 46th-ranked Drexel. Action is set to begin at 5:30 pm.
