Olson Fifth on the Three Meter at Zone Meet

March 12, 2010

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Olaf Olson (Jr., Bainbridge Island, Wash.) placed fifth on the three-meter springboard to highlight Navy's efforts Friday at the NCAA Zone `A' Diving Championship being held this weekend in Piscataway, N.J.

Olson stood in fourth place after the preliminary round of dives with a score of 327.25 points. He would drop one spot in the final standings with a total score of 622.85 points.

Navy's Ben Nicholas (So., Bothell, Wash.) placed 32nd on the day with a preliminary round score of 217.80 points.

"Olaf did a great job today," said Navy head coach Joe Suriano. "He was a little short on two of his dives, but otherwise he had a very good day.

"Ben had a tough first day, but we are looking for him to bounce back with a better showing on the one meter."

Connecticut's Stephen Ferreira won the three-meter event with a total score of 693.95 points.

The zone competition, which determines the field for the upcoming NCAA Championship, will continue Saturday with the one meter and Sunday with the platform event.
