Navy Women's Tennis Cruises Past St. Bonaventure, 5-2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team won the doubles point by winning two-of-three matches, then claimed four singles matches to top St. Bonaventure, 5-2, on Thursday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

The win was Navy's fourth victory in a row and improves the Mids' record to 7-2 overall. The match was Navy's first played outdoors, as the teams took advantage of the mild conditions.

"While I was pleased with the effort today, I still feel that we can continue to improve and we will address these areas that we need to improve on," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear, who won his 450th career match with the win. "It was a little tough out today because during the match we had a drastic change in the weather. The temperature dropped 10-15 degrees and the wind really became a factor. But that is a part of outdoor tennis, and we adjusted ok."

Navy won the doubles point, by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 contests. At No. 2 doubles, Dye Das and Stefanie Ton knocked off Maria Barousse and Amanda Pallikunnel, 9-7. At No. 3 doubles, Lindsay Olsen and Julie Dias blanked Riley Archer and Kalia Garia-Rojas, 8-0.

The Midshipmen then won four of six singles matches, highlighted by Brittney Boucher's win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Maria Barousse. Boucher now owns an 8-1 singles record in the spring.

Navy then clinched the match by winning Nos. 4-6 in singles play. Dye Das defeated Pallikunnel in a three-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8). At. No. 5, freshman Natalie Houle breezed past Garcia-Rojas, 6-1, 6-1, and Lindsay Olsen cruised past Archer, 6-3, 6-0.

Navy will travel to Bucknell on Saturday for its first Patriot League match in school history.

"This weekend's match against Bucknell will be a great challenge. They have gone to the Patriot League final the last four years,so they will be tough," said Puryear. "But we are looking forward to the challenge. It is a great opportunity to see where we stand right now."
