ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's tennis claimed the doubles point and then split the six singles matches to defeat visiting Delaware 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
The victory, which came in Navy's third match in four days, ends a mini two-game skid for the Mids, who improve to 5-9 on the spring. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, fall to 1-2 in dual action.
The Midshipmen took the doubles point with wins at the first and second slots. Ramsey Lemaich (Sr./Danville, Calif.) and Nick Birger (Jr./Belleville, Ill.) won 8-4 at second doubles, while Owen Bullard (Jr./Concord, N.C.) and Nicholas Gutsche (Fr./Sarasota, Fla.) teamed up for an 8-6 win at first doubles to earn the point for Navy. Gutsche would also win his match at No. 5 singles.
Navy's Jeremy New (Jr./Glen Allen, Va.) also turned in a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles setting up Zach Nicholson (So./Bowie, Md.) to clinch the team victory with a 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-2 win over Chris Hincker at fourth singles.
The Mids have now topped Delaware by an identical 4-3 count in each of the last two seasons.
