WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy men's heavyweight crew team finished off a perfect 3-0 weekend at the George Washington Invitational by winning all of its races on Saturday on the Potomac River.
By virtue of their performance at the weekend regatta, the Midshipmen were awarded the overall points trophy and tied for the men's trophy.
In the morning portion of the invitational, Navy's first varsity boat finished 16.4 seconds ahead of MIT, 5:29.4-5:45.8. The Midshipmen also boasted the top time in the second varsity race by 7.7 seconds over second-place Gonzaga, 5:38.7-5:46.4, and in the first freshmen race by 4.7 seconds over second-place Holy Cross, 5:37.6-5:42.3. The Mids also registered a 19.4-second triumph in the second freshmen race against host George Washington, 5:40.5-5:59.8.
The Midshipmen followed in the afternoon with victories in all-three events against UC San Diego. In the first varsity race, Navy completed the race in 5:37.1 to finish 8.6 seconds ahead of the Tritons. Both of Navy's boats in second varsity and freshmen races posted a minimum four-second victory prior to the first varsity event.
The Midshipmen (3-0) will return to action on Saturday, April 17, when they play host to Syracuse and Cornell for the Goes Trophy at 6 a.m. on the Severn River.
