ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's heavyweight crew team placed third in the Goes Trophy race, which is awarded to the winner of the first varsity race between the Midshipmen, Syracuse and Cornell, on the Severn River Saturday morning.
Cornell captured the Goes Trophy for the second straight-year, crossing the finish line with a winning clocking of 5:59.1. The Big Red finished just 0.4 seconds in front of the runner-up Syracuse, who came in with a time of 5:59.5. Navy placed third in the race, finishing with a time of 6:08.06.
Saturday's action was cut short as the weather conditions prompted the referees to cancel the remaining races after the first 500 meters of the second varsity competition.
The Midshipmen will head up to Boston to take on Harvard and Penn for the Adams Cup next Saturday.
