ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team won two-of-three doubles matches, then won five-of-six singles matches, all in straight sets, to claim a 6-1 victory over Lehigh on a gorgeous Friday afternoon at the Naval Academy.

The win improves Navy's record to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League. The victory was Navy's first in a Patriot League match in school history.

Lehigh falls to 2-11 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League.

"I was very pleased with the way we responded to today's challenge. Conference matches always bring a higher level of intensity and I think we learned a lot from last Saturday's match against Bucknell," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "Lehigh is always a well-coached team, and they made us raise our level of play to beat them. We now have to make sure we prepare for tomorrow's match against Lafayette."

Navy won the doubles point by holding the Mountain Hawks to just nine games won in the two doubles matches won by Navy. Brittney Boucher and Emani Decquir upped their record to 4-2 on the season with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Dye Das and Stefanie Ton went to 5-1 with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for Navy.

The Mids then won the first five matches of singles play in convincing fashion to earn the victory.

Decquir, a freshmen who ran her record to 13-8, defeated Julie Arthofer, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, snapping a three-match losing streak in the process. Boucher defeated Liz Piscitelli, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 singles for her ninth win against just two losses during the spring season.

At No. 3 singles, Ton, a freshman, picked up her 10th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Stacy Reich. Dye Das, another freshman, improved to 8-3 in the dual season with a 6-0, 6-4, win over Pat Muething.

Navy's last win came from freshman Natalie Houle, who pushed her mark to 8-3 in the spring with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Kira Murasko-Blanc.

Navy will complete its weekend with a 2:30 start against Lafayette on Saturday. The match will be played at the 8th Wing Courts at the United States Naval Academy. The match may start a little later as the men's team also hosts Lafayette, beginning at noon.
